7th Grade Science
The 7th grade science curriculum contains unifying concepts of science based on the National Science Education Standards. Having been introduced to basic scientific competencies (K-6th), students will grow in their scientific knowledge based on the objectives and concepts presented in the NCSCOS. The 7th grade curriculum focuses on the mastery of skills in inquiry and technological design. As students take the initiative to learn science and technology their confidence will strengthen with every successful scientific experience. Students will have the to opportunity to learn about themselves, community and potential career paths.

The North Carolina Standard Course of Study provides six goals in which students have the opportunity to learn the seventh grade science curriculum and objectives. NCSCOS- 7th grade Science

Goal 1: Nature of Science
· Students will identify and create questions and hypotheses.
· Students will develop and apply appropriate scientific procedures.
· Students will analyze variables and evidence.
· Students will use mathematics throughout the process of scientific investigation.
· Use outside sources such as literacy and technological means to assist in scientific investigations.
· Prepare models.

Goal 2: Technological Design
· Explore technology and its many forms.
· Students will use information systems to identify and locate scientific needs and resources.
· Evaluate technological designs for application.

Goal 3: Understanding of Atmosphere
· Learner will explain properties and structure of atmosphere.
· Evaluate impacts on air quality.
· The learner will examine atmospheric properties that correlate with atmospheric conditions and weather hazards.
· Students will assess the use of technology in studying weather and weather phenomena. Video on Global Warming-Glaciers Melting Away

Goal 4: Human Body Systems
· Students will analyze how the human body systems interact.
· Describe systems within the body and their functions.
· Explain how one organ can operate in more than one body system.
· Analyze regulation and the effects of an imbalance in the human body.
· Students will describe growth and development in the human.
· Explain effects of environment on the human and its health.

· Students will explain the importance of understanding the human body systems.

Goal 5: Heredity and Genetics
· Explain relationship between genes and inherited characteristics.
· Students will explain reproduction.
· Students will identify human genetic traits. A Recipe for Traits..."Man's Best Friend"
· Analyze probability in heredity.
· Students will summarize genetic transmittance. (Disease)
· Evaluate what influences human characteristics.

Goal 6: Motion and Forces
· Students will analyze simple machines and their functions.
· Evaluate motion using Newton’s Laws.
· Students will measure moving objects and their interactions within a system.
· Analyze real world interactions of forces.
